65 Million years ago the Cenozoic era took place the major modern continents had already taken shape, as little by little they moved to their current positions. The ancient ocean known as Tethys still separated the northern ans southern continents. The continent Laurasia continued to split apart. The continent Gondwanaland no longer existed because South America and Africa ( the continents that made up Gondwanaland) had separated from each other. Australia and India already existed at this time, but little by little they started to separate from the other continents. All this land movement was due to the tectonic plates behind Earth's surface. the Tectonic Plates are: A theory that explains the global distribution of geological phenomena such as seismic, volcanism, continental drift, and mountain building in terms of the formation, destruction, movement, and interaction of the earth's lithosphere plates.
